Speaker: Thomas Reimann
Thomas Reimann is Head of Procurement Germany / Denmark at the Hamburg headquarters of Wintershall Dea Deutschland AG, Europe's leading independent natural gas and oil company. He has been in charge of strategic and operational purchasing for all German production and service facilities, corporate headquarters and Denmark for seven years. Within this region, his team of Sourcing Group Managers manages around 20 global and regional sourcing groups with 160 subdivided product groups. They develop the sourcing strategies, are responsible for their coordination and implementation and determine the framework contract portfolio as well as large contracts above a certain value limit. Strategic Procurement is guided by an operative Shared Service Procurement, both are supported by a Tools & Processes team in Procurement.
Thomas Reimann studied industrial engineering with technical focus on mechanical engineering at the University of Kaiserslautern and has worked for 20 years in various companies in the energy, oil and gas, mechanical engineering and plant construction industries. His 13 years of experience in Procurement are complemented by sound expertise in mechanical engineering, process engineering, production, maintenance, project business, M&A, controlling and accounting.
According to his experience, the clear idea of the added value, that Procurement can contribute to a company, is quite different, depending on the department or company one asks. A professional Procurement department can do much more than just write contracts with suppliers, convert purchase requisitions into purchase orders and achieve some cost savings by the way. This is where the challenge usually begins.
